WHERE MUSIC MEETS COLOUR

About myself

Olga Pais — portrait

I am an artist and musician living in Sydney, originally from Moscow, Russia. Music has been part of my life since childhood: I have played piano for more than 25 years, studied double bass at the Russian State Specialized Academy of Arts, and now I also teach piano. But painting became the way I found another voice — a way to transform sound, rhythm and inner energy into colour and form.

I still remember walking into an art supply store for the first time at 21 and feeling that magical excitement: colours, brushes, canvases — all seemed full of possibilities. Since then, painting has been a place of freedom for me. I often look to the sky before I start, to clear my mind and open myself to inspiration. Sometimes I work in silence, sometimes to the music of Ravel, Rachmaninoff or Rimsky-Korsakov, letting rhythm and melody guide the brush.

My paintings are about vibration — bold horizontal and vertical strokes, a few pure colours, energy that resonates like the sound of a string. I love the idea that when a work enters someone’s home, it becomes part of their own harmony, sounding differently for each person.

In my family life as a young mother, I am learning to be softer, kinder, to notice small joys. This warmth and openness flows into my paintings. They are not lessons, but invitations — to pause, to breathe, to feel beauty, harmony, space and freedom in your own way.
